Proper immersion heater placement is extremely important to ensure the proper function. Immersion heaters require adequate coverage with molten metal, and require proper spacing between heaters. Proper placement must be decided prior to determining the final design of the furnace.

How To Decide Your Immersion Heater Placement

  1. Determine overall heating requirements for application, and determine volume of molten metal required for production.
  2. Build in enough “headroom” so that heaters aren’t pushed to maximum capacity while running, this may require a mix of horizontal and vertical oriented heaters.
  3.  Ensure that any vertically oriented heaters will be adequately submerged during the heating process, and remain adequately submerged during production…if this may be an issue, solely horizontal heaters may be a more desirable solution.
  4. Calculate the distance between all heaters in their installed locations, make sure the spacing between heaters does not exceed the mfg. minimums specified.
  5. Consider if the advantages of mixing horizontal and vertical heaters is “worth it” if you need to stock “back-up” heaters in case of breakage/outage. This is relevant only if the immersion heater mfg has separate models for “horizontal” and “vertical”

Immersion Heating System Details

New Century Heaters has engineered our immersion heaters specifically for molten metal. These heaters coupled with specially designed protection tubes provide the most robust and efficient molten metal heat source in the industry.

Our immersion heating elements are made of heavy gage ICA wire on cast ceramic cores that guarantee wire spacing to evenly distribute the heat through high density, high conductivity, non-wetting protection tubes.

We use the heaviest gage wire in the industry to provide robust, long-lived heaters that can be operated up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The wire is recessed in separating groves that are precision cast in a ceramic core that is engineered to compliment the mating protection tube. Because of this, the coils can never touch each other and short out. Extra heavy leads are brought out and insulated away from the heater core to provide trouble free connections.
